Redavats of Dutchess County

The origin of the family Riudavets members who have settled in The United States of America is the Island of Menorca. That island is the second in size of the Balearic archipelago and located off the east coast of Spain in the Mediterranean sea. Some members had already emigrated in 1768 from Alayor and Sant Felip, Menorca, to the plantation at New Smyrna in Florida, near Cape Canaveral. The Mormon Genealogical records lists Margarita Riudavets, married, May 3, 1780 at New Smyrna, Volusia, Florida. Another record shows that Juana Margarita Riudavets was born in 1729 on Menorca. In the same source it reveals an Antonia Jover Riudavets was born prior to 1666, most probably in Menorca. The Riudavets related to the Williams family emigrated later during the XIX century to Cuba. This is indicated by letters written from Cuba to Menorca dated beginning in 1838. It appears that some of the emigrants to Cuba perhaps established themselves in Jacksonville, Florida or had St Augustine as their source. It is certain that some moved into the New York City area. we have documentation for many New England members in the family and birth records. At some point the name "Riudavets" was changed to "Redavat and or Redavats". The purpose of this web site is to provide the opportunity to all Riudavets to communicate with each other electronically as we enter the 2000 years epoch. Thus we can utilise the power of modern communication to elucidate the records and experiences of the present Riudavets and their forbearers throughout the entire world. We believe that by this means we would provide the first opportunity for all Riudavets to find out about each other.

El origen de los miembros de la familia Riudavets que se han establecido en los Estados Unidos de Norteamerica esta en la Isla de Menorca. Esta Isla es la segunda en tamano del archipielago de las Baleares, localizado en la parte este de la costa de Espana en el Mar Mediterraneo. Algunos miembros emigraron en 1768 desde Alayor y San Felipe, Menorca, a la plantacion de New Smyrna en Florida, cerca de Cabo Canaveral. En la listas de los archivos genealogicos Mormones aparece la boda de Margarita Riudavets del tres de Mayo de 1780 en New Smyrna, Volusia, Florida. En otro archivo, se lee que Juana Margarita Riudavets nace en 1729 en Menorca y de la misma fuente sabemos de una Antonia Jover Riudavets nacida antes de 1668, seguramente en Menorca. Los Riudavets emparentados con los de la familia Williams, emigraron mas tarde durante el siglo XIX a Cuba. Esto se deduce de la correspondencia desde Cuba a Menorca fechada a principios de 1838. Parece ser que algunos de los emigrantes a Cuba se establecieron luego en Jacksonville, Florida o Saint Augustine, segun su procedencia. Jack Leland Riudavets Williams, at the left and Victoriano Seone Pascuchi (Riudavets) to the right, have gathered a list of members of the family Riudavets based on the information of the family segment in the USA. These two descendants continued to gather family information in the presence of the living Patriarch Don Joan Riudavets Moll. Don Moll, age 114 years lives in Migjorn, Menorca.
